KARATE WISDOM: FUMIO DEMURA
"On Karate Evolution"
"All karate styles have the same basics - the blocks, punches, kicks, and stances. What is unique or different between styles is the delivery system for the particular body motions. I try to base my technique and footwork on what I feel works in a combat situation, and from my own personal experiences of what works for me. This ultimately affects the way techniques are delivered and can modify the philosophy and strategy behind the physical execution of the techniques. As a practitioner spends more time training, it is natural that the techniques and delivery systems evolve - if for no other reason than age, injuries, physical condition, et cetera. This will affect the way a practitioner executes and thinks about kata as well."
