The Legacy of a Master in 6 CLASSIC VOLUMES!
In this classic and original “Ancient Warrior Productions” set of 6 DVD, the legendary Kobudo master, Sensei Fumio Demura unveils the secrets, principles and techniques of the 6 Okinawan Kobudo traditional weapons: Nunchaku, Bo, Sai, Tonfa, Kama and Eku.
NUNCHAKU
The nunchaku consists of two pieces of wood of various lengths that are joined together by rope (originally horse hair) or a chain (originally the “bit” from a horse’s bridle) to create a formidable weapon of self-defense. Audiences are consistently impressed with martial artists’ dazzling and innovative routines using the nunchaku. In this video, Fumio Demura sensei teaches proper grips, stances, swings, strikes, blocks and a basic beginner’s kata. (Approx. 52 min.)
KAMA
The kama is a sickle that Okinawan farmers used to harvest their rice crops. Unlike other tools such as the bo and sai—which are normally made of wood or bamboo—the kama has a sharp cutting edge. In this video, Fumio Demura sensei teaches the fundamentals of proper kama use, including proper grips, strikes, stances, counters and defenses. (Approx. 58 min.)
TONFA
Originally adapted from an Okinawan farm implement, martial artists today use the tonfa to perform kata (techniques) and as a weapon. Former national free-fighting champion from Japan, a member of the Black Belt Hall of Fame and tonfa authority, Fumio Demura teaches proper grips, strikes, stances, defense moves, attacks and other techniques that will improve your overall skill and coordination. (Approx. 46 min.)
BO
Fumio Demura studied under Japanese master Ryusho Sakagami and Okinawan master Kenshin Taira. Demura has won the All-Japan Karate Freefighting Championships (1961), twice been voted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame and is recognized the world over as one of the premier martial artists of all time. Bo features grasping, striking, blocking, kata, maneuvering and application. (Approx. 60 min.)
SAI
Fumio Demura studied under Japanese master Ryusho Sakagami and Okinawan master Kenshin Taira. Demura has won the All-Japan Karate Freefighting Championships (1961), twice been voted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame and is recognized the world over as one of the premier martial artists of all time. Sai features proper grips, attacks, defense, kata, maneuvering and application. (Approx. 60 min.)
EKU
The eku bo—also known as the kai—is an oar used by Okinawan fishermen. Most of the techniques for using the eku bo are much like those of the bo, another Okinawan weapon. In this video, Fumio Demura sensei covers basic stances, proper grips, defense movements, blocks and counters. A basic “beginner’s” kata is also covered in this volume. (Approx. 54 min.)
