                                              YIP MAN WING CHUN SYSTEM

                                                          William Cheung

“Yip Man learned wing chun from two different masters. The first was Chan Wah Sun. This version was based on the centerline and it is the wing chun version that you see in most schools today. But there’s an older version of the art that is not based on the centerline, and this is the version the late Yip Man learned from Leung Bik, his second master. This is the one I learned from Yip Man while I lived with him. This simple but relevant concept changes the whole art. The wing chun system was developed by a woman, so it avoids meeting force with force. In the traditional version of wing chun, the practitioner deflects rather than stops a blow. This is the reason why positioning and footwork are so important.”
